Regularly evaluate who you are working with
Don't keep working with people who lack most of these
qualities. If you continue to only find people who lack
these qualities…it is time to conduct a self-examination
to determine why you are not targeting people with
the qualities you need.
- Know the characteristics you need to develop in
yourself.
- A positive attitude
- persistence
- good communication skills
- personal credibility
- good rapport with your contacts
- ability to ask good questions
- being a good listener
-
Building a Shaklee business is a sorting process. It is
normal that:
-
Many of the people you have appointments with will become good product users.
-
Some will be interested in the business for only a short time, BUT will build a small nucleus of product users around themselves.
-
Some of those users will become interested in the opportunity
-
A smaller number will develop as Directors and may build a small organization.
-
A few will become Directors who will build a large organization.
- Set an appointment with people for a presentation.
-
Don't talk too much.
-
Invite them to investigate the opportunity further.
-
Invite them to evaluate Shaklee Products.
-
If there is interest, arrange for your next contact BEFORE your conclude the
appointment.
-
If there doesn't appear to be any interest, don't push unreceptive people.
- During your presentation, make the right first
impression.
-
Be enthusiastic, but don't go overboard.
-
Have confidence.
-
Show a sense of urgency but not desperation.
-
Don't worry about your own lack of success. Use the success stories of others until you have your own story. Tell other's stories, use 1099's, use Bonus Statements, etc.
- Follow-up within a reasonable time.
Follow up within 24 to 48 hours; never more than 1
week. I always close an appointment with something
like, "Joe & Mary, would it be o.k. to give you a call
Thursday or Friday to see if you have any questions
about Shaklee?”, or, "Joe & Mary, would it be o.k. to
give you a call Thursday or Friday to see how the
products are working for you?” Then, the follow-up
call is easier because they have already given you
permission.
Follow-up techniques:
-
Phone, mail, and then e-mail are better than e-mail, e-mail, e-mail.
-
Send a note in the mail after a contact. This is a great habit to develop.
- During follow-up always move towards further
involvement. You are looking for concrete activity on
their part. For example:
-
They buy a few products to evaluate and start to use them.
-
They attend a Shaklee Opportunity meeting with you to see what we do
-
They meet with you for Follow-up Appointments.
-
They host an Opportunity Meeting at their home where you make the presentation.
-
They host an in-home Product Event at their home where you make the presentation.
-
They introduce you to people they know in order for you to present the Shaklee Story.
- How do I determine where to put my greatest efforts?
This is what we look for…

- Some additional recruiting keys
-
In order to build your Shaklee team to lay the foundation of an organization, look for people who want to develop as leaders.
-
The key to finding potential leaders is in the interviewing process. Ask good questions, look for quality people and sort through enough people to find the gems.
-
People like to be associated with busy, successful people – don't come across as desperate.
-
You're a leader of your own home-based business. When you are at an appointment, act like a leader. Don't allow others to take control by being rude or making you jump through hoops in order to convince them to join your business. Let such people go.
-
Treat your business seriously. Give it time and attention. Then, others will do the same.
-
People will sponsor into a home-based opportunity with a person they perceive to be a leader. They buy products they perceive to be of value.
-
Your confidence or lack of confidence will determine how successful you are. Without confidence you won't experience much success.
